Enrollment Policy

The following guidelines will be adhered to in placing students within the Preschool. In keeping with the Montessori philosophy, the class composition will be as close to the following as possible:

3 year olds
4 or 5
4 year olds
7 or 8
5 year olds
7 or 8

Where permitted, there will be an equal distribution of females and males in each class. Placements within the school will be assigned within this context, and in order of priority, as follows:

  1. Returning students have first priority for their previous time slot
  2. After returning students have completed their re-registration process, registration is open to:
    1. siblings of present students;
    2. siblings of past students according to the date of the enrolment application;
    3. names on the waiting list according to the date of the enrolment application, and
    4. to the general public.

Any child entering the school for the first time** must be:

  1. 30 months of age on the day of admission and 36 months of age prior to December 31 of the year of enrollment
  2. sufficiently mature as not to be a disruptive factor in the class
  3. able to accept separation from parent/caregiver and home
  4. toilet trained

Every attempt will be made to give parents their preference of a morning or afternoon spot. In the event that the preferred placement cannot be offered, the parents will be informed of the alternate spaces that are available, and their child will have priority for their space, according to the guidelines above.

In all cases, a position for a child is secured only upon receipt by the Society of the completed registration form for the child and payment of the both the registration fee (payable immediately) as well as post-dated cheques for the complete annual tuition amounts.

All placements are contingent on the members remaining in good standing on all tuition and registration payments from the previous school year. The registration fee and first month's tuition payment for the current application must also be paid, and post-dated cheques for the remaining months secured by the deadline given to the parents.

**All preschool children undergo an orientation and six-week trial period.
